Dr. Emmanuel

I'm Dr. Emmanuel — a Licensed Professional Counselor, a Catholic priest, and someone who has spent nearly two decades sitting with people in the hardest moments of their lives. I believe healing isn't only a clinical process. It's a human one. And sometimes a sacred one. Whatever you're carrying — grief, anxiety, exhaustion, a relationship in trouble, a faith that's gone quiet, a life that no longer feels under your control — you are welcome here.

Trained in two traditions. Present to all.

I hold a PhD in Counseling Psychology from the University of Connecticut and I'm also a Catholic priest, formed in a much older tradition — what's been called for centuries "the care of souls"— the patient work of tending to a person's interior life, regardless of where they are in their lives. Together, these two trainings let me meet people in the full territory of what they're going through. One taught me how to understand the mind. The other taught me how to sit with the soul.

Two decades of accompaniment.

For twenty years, I have served individuals and families through counseling, pastoral care, chaplaincy, teaching, and nonprofit leadership. I have sat with the grieving, the anxious, the exhausted, the spiritually disoriented, the quietly broken-hearted. I have walked beside professionals who appear successful from the outside and feel hollow on the inside. I have helped people returning to faith, and people wrestling with whether to leave it. I have held space for the kinds of pain most people don't say out loud.

I listen carefully, speak with compassion and clarity — and I believe that people heal best when they are met with compassion, honesty, and careful attention to the full weight of their lives. Above all, I believe in the people who come to me — and in the possibility of healing, clarity, and renewal.

Blue Boat Reflection

“I have come that they may have life, and have it abundantly.”— John 10:10

Made for you

I work with adults, adolescents, clergy, caregivers and vocational helpers across Connecticut, including:

  • People navigating grief, loss, and major life transitions

  • Caregivers exhausted by the weight of caring for others

  • Professionals and ministry leaders carrying more than they can sustain

  • Couples trying to rebuild trust, communication, or closeness

  • Men and women returning to faith — or wrestling with leaving it

  • People living with wounds that were never fully tended

  • And anyone longing for a place where they do not have to carry everything alone

Reaching out is often the hardest part. You don't need to have it figured out. You don't need to know what to say. You only need to take one small step, and I'll meet you there.
